Derek Murray Consulting Associates is one of Saskatchewan’s oldest management consulting practices.  DMCA is very proud of the fact that many of the projects undertaken have moved forward from concept to the development of trade centres, research facilities, tourism assets, and other major accomplishments.  It takes a particular combination of skills and experience to move projects from the traditional feasibility studies to recognizing the critical path that will have projects actually materialize.

Experience with Strategic Planning and Analysis

DMCA has worked with both Aboriginal and government institutions on a number of projects dealing with economic, skills, and community development.  The projects have ranged from broad and strategic/economic planning engagements to specific cultural and educational business plans.

Economic impact analyses are crucial to understanding the importance of investments and making key investment decisions.  DMCA realizes that economic impacts must be completed with quality data, proven metrics, and put into terms that decision makers can understand and utilize.

Labour Force Analysis and Post-Secondary Training Institutions

DMCA is highly current in terms of Saskatchewan’s labour force demand and has worked extensively with post-secondary training institutions.  The firm has taken on several major projects including the development of a Provincial Labour Market Strategy.

Through several projects DMCA has analyzed the importance of the transportation infrastructure and proper transportation planning to economic development.

Nearly every project DMCA has taken on has some consultation component, it is the cornerstone of quality research.  From a province wide community by community consultation on the future of Crown Corporations to surveying northern residents on their fishing and hunting expenditures, DMCA has undertaken all manner of consultation projects.  DMCA has built a network of contacts in every sector and level of government to allow for accelerated environmental scans as well as a network of stakeholders for more in depth analyses.

 

New Entity Creation and Governance

A number of the projects DMCA has been involved with have involved the development of new organizations and in most cases the development of a board managed legal entity.

Demographic, Population, and Data Analysis

Population, labour force, and demographic forecasting and analysis have been undertaken by DMCA as specific projects and in support of other projects.  DMCA is highly proficient at compiling data and turning it into useful tools for clients.  DMCA has broad experience in mining data from sources such as Statistics Canada, Revenue Canada, Saskatchewan Covered Health Population, Tourism Saskatchewan visitation statistics, Saskatchewan Bureau of Statistics, the Federal Surveys on Aboriginal Peoples, financial sources, municipal planning and construction statistics, and others.

Tourism and Heritage Attraction Development

Project experience has involved provincial, regional, and municipal tourism strategies as well as specific product development throughout Western Canada.  DMCA has undertaken major projects such as the development of the RCMP Heritage Centre, Casino Feasibility, and a Saskatchewan provincial tourism strategy.
